That is the idea behind National Cinema Day, a special occasion that will be observed across India on October 13, 2023. On this day, moviegoers will be able to enjoy their favorite films at an affordable price of just Rs 99 per ticket. This offer will be valid for all movies playing in over 4000 screens across the country, including popular chains like PVR, Inox, Cinepolis, Miraj, Citypride, Asian, Mukta A2, Movie Time, WAVE, M2K, Delite, and others.
National Cinema Day is an initiative by the Multiplex Association of India (MAI), which represents the interests of the multiplex industry in India. The MAI aims to promote the growth and development of the multiplex sector, as well as to foster a healthy and vibrant cinema culture in the country.
The MAI announced National Cinema Day on its official X (formerly known as Twitter) handle on September 21, 2023. It said, “National Cinema Day is back on October 13th. Join us at over 4000+ screens across India for an incredible cinematic experience, with movie tickets priced at just Rs. 99. It’s the perfect day to enjoy your favorite films with friends and family.”
The MAI also said that National Cinema Day is a way of thanking the moviegoers for their support and loyalty to the multiplex industry, especially after the challenging times of the pandemic. The MAI said that it hopes that National Cinema Day will encourage more people to visit cinemas and experience the joy of watching movies on the big screen.
National Cinema Day was first celebrated in 2022, on September 23, to commemorate the successful reopening of movie halls after a long lockdown due to Covid-19. The response was overwhelming, as more than 65 lakh moviegoers visited cinemas on that day, making it the highest attended day of the year at the theatres. Most of the shows were sold out and the houseful boards returned to the ticket counters.
This year, National Cinema Day promises to be even bigger and better, as there are many exciting movies to choose from across languages and genres. Some of the movies that are currently running or will be releasing soon are:
